The forest is raining acorns. They sound like gun shots as they ricochet off the rooftops.
Possibly I should post a "Danger" sign
The deer, squirrels, coons, possums and all the other critters should be quite content with their supply of food.
You really don't want to step off that porch Bailey, it's a war zone out there.
This is our Church Fall Festival weekend.
Over the past few weeks I've made three aprons and eight burpies to donate to our country store.
Friday afternoon I stood with 14 others, carving turkeys. We then pulled up a chair and chopped celery for stuffing
Saturday I baked 4 loaves of bread, 2 pecan pies, 2 apple pies, 2 pineapple upside down cakes
Then we headed out of town to Arrow Rock.
We paid $3.09 for gas. $3.09! It has been over a year since I've seen gas priced that low.
Greg (son) and his family were camping in Arrow Rock and invited us to join them for the evening.
Greg BBQ'd pork steaks to perfection. Alicia served scalloped potatoes, corn, and a chocolate cake that screamed calories. It was delicious. Her mom brought a great lettuce salad. And we brought wine.
Sitting around the campfire, watching the flames dance while the kids roasted marshmallows, was the perfect ending to a very hectic week.
Now to survive the Fall Festival today!

Wow, Deanna, you did a lot of work for your fall festival!! A labor of love indeed! That had to be a lot of turkeys to cut up! It must have felt like an early Thanksgiving!
I have to admit, I'm reading this before I have breakfast and it made me so hungry reading about all that delicious food! wishing your church a successful festival!
And yum on the gathering with your family! You brought the best part of the meal, LOL, but all the food sounded delicious! I'm sure you enjoyed your time!
Too cute about the acorns falling; it reminded me of this verse from Psalm 104:27-28:
27 All creatures look to you
to give them their food at the proper time.
28 When you give it to them,
they gather it up;
when you open your hand,
they are satisfied with good things.

I am jealous of your gas prices. Our gas is still at $3.59. Your fall festival sounds wonderful. So much food and all of it delicious.
Oh ,y goodness, all that food tak sounds delicious. I love turkey. Remember when we only had it for thanksgiving. I'm so glad those times have changed and I can now buy just the turkey breast.
Isn't celebrating $3.09 gas awful? True, but awful. You're gonna need to have a time out to recooperate.

I was raised in New England and our back yard had several oaks; the squirrels just lived for this time of the year.

I had 3 pinoaks, 4 pecan trees and a sweetgum tree in my yard (when I owned a house)...and lord this time of year you didn't dare venture out barefoot..even with shoes on they hurt if you stepped on em.

I was just in Arrow Rock last week. Hardly anyone there that day. Some places were closed. It is a neat little place and I love the quietness of it. Guess it won't be so quiet next weekend when they have their Fall Festival, tho. :D

We have black walnuts falling on the metal roof of the chicken house. They sound like gunshots. No wonder the chickens have almost quit laying.
I'm tired just THINKING about doing all that work! I'm sure it will all be worth it though. Everyone is going to love everything you made!

Lord! Have you ever been busy helping and sewing and cooking!! What a wonderful time to catch your breath and relax with your son and family. Sounds like you really needed it!

Oh, I wish I could hear the acorns dropping. I would love it. I've only heard them hitting my head and yes, it was a hollow sound.
Your Bailey cat reminds me of my Kiki Dee- a feral kitten from years ago who has only warmed up to me in the last couple of years. She's 13 now.

Gas is $3.49 a gallon here. A week ago it was $3.61.

I agree it's a war zone outside with the acorns. The blacksmith is going to brush hog the trails at deer camp this week, his brother said he might need to put chains on the tractor to get through the acorns!
