We started the Bake Day tradition in 1999. Jim and I, and the kids and their families who can make it, get together and do our Christmas cookie baking. We discovered this year that after so many years of doing this, we’ve developed a pretty good flow of who does what. The big event of the day is always cutting out the sugar cookies, icing them and sprinkling. This year when we put the leaves in the table to give us more work room, we discovered sprinkles from last year’s bake day hiding there. Jim cleaned them out just in time for this year’s mess.
As the grandchildren get older, it is becoming more difficult to find time for what has become a very special day for me. We always do it the weekend before Christmas. There is nothing like fresh cookies. I am hoping the day never comes when I find myself baking Christmas cookies alone again. Surely someone will take pity on me and come dump a cup of flour or two, or a bottle of sprinkles, on the floor!

Baking cookies with my cousins is one of my favorite childhood memories. Yay for you doing this with your family!
That looks like fun to me and they will come around, trust me. I was one of those teens that didn't want to hang out with family. The older I got the more it became important to me. Now my 23 yr old son has become big on family. Waiting for my 19 to figure it out.
Making memories is a wonderful thing. What a great time for everyone.

Hi Deana, How wonderful to have so much sweet help making cookies...and making memories! They will never forget this. I know what you mean about trash the kitchen...I can pretty much do that all by myself when I make cookies!

I always love seeing pictures from your Bake Day. The kids look like they're having lots of fun. I bet the grownups were too.
I mixed up a batch of Christmas cookies Sunday afternoon, but they're in the refrigerator chilling until I have time to cut them out and bake them. Most likely tomorrow afternoon.

ERRRRRR I wish Dougs birthday was a week earlier than it is!!!!! I HATE missing Bake Day!!! I am glad you all had fun and can't wait to try some of the cookies. I hope to be able to work it out that we celebrate Dougs birthday a week early or late next year so we don't have to miss Bake Day. I LOVE the pictures though.

Geek Sons fam gets together with other families to do this each year. It's tradition and they all have a blast!!!

I always tell people that after thanksgiving dinner , we clean out the refrigerator to make room for the turkey and discover last years.. lol ,as for you,i dont see how there would ever come the day when you would have t omake them alone. Never happen. Merry Christmas .. Y O P........JR
We didn't do any baking this year. Between illnesses and weather it just didn't happen. I missed it. I'm glad you got your baking day in with everyone, and hope you still get to do it for several years to come!
