A rant

Usually the one who says "I'm not one to complain, but..." is the one who complains a lot.  I'm hoping I don't fall into that category because...

I'm not one to complain, but...  I've been struggling with an ear ache for well over a week.  After a miserable weekend over a week ago, I called my new family physician that Monday (a week ago today).  She is new because I have so many specialists keeping me ticking that I've had no need for a family physician.  Maybe I should have been suspicious when they were able to get me in only a few hours after I called.  She seemed nice and looked and talked like a doctor.  She asked all the right questions and looked in my ear.  Then, although she couldn't see any infection, she prescribed antibiotic ear drops.  Ok, she's the Dr. so she must know what she is doing.  Right?

After faithfully putting in those drops Monday and Tuesday, I was in more pain.  So Wednesday morninig I called the Dr's. office, explained that I was in more pain and was hoping the Dr. could call in the numbing drops that she had mentioned during my visit there.  The receptionist said she would have her call me.

By 3:30 I had still not heard from the Dr., so I called again.  The Dr. had gone home for the day.  No new medicine for me.

The next day I waited.  The Dr. finally called my cell phone at 5:02 pm.  The call went to voice mail before I could get it.  Dr. left a message that she would call me on Friday.  I immediately tried to call back and got the good ol' "The office is closed message".

We left for vacation Friday morning.  Me with the trusty ear drops that weren't working and aspirin.  By now I could not hear out of my left ear and it ached unceasingly.  The Dr. never did call back and I was fed up and had no faith that she ever had any clue what she was treating.

Fortunately, Jim and our friends are wonderful and put up with me whining about hurting and not being able to hear.  They are great fun and did a good job of keeping me distracted.

So here we are back to Monday.  Screw the GP.  I called an Ear Nose & Throat Specialist and talked them into working me in.  It took one look for him to tell me that I have a Yeast infection in my ear.  I did not know that was possible!  He did a first treatment on it.  It wasn't pleasant but I felt immediate relief.  I gave him "the look" when he mentioned that the drops Dr. Dodo had given me weren't going to help.  He grinned and said, "But then you already figured that out, didn't you..."  He sent me home with an antifungal cream that has to be squirted into the ear every day.  It will take at least three more sessions to get rid of the infection but hey!  I feel better already!

Rant done.  I feel better now that I've gotten that out.  Oh, and I am going to complain to the medical center that Dr. Dodo is associated with.

And then people wonder why I always try herbal remedies before going to doctors!

Reminds me of the doctor who sent my hubby home with an antibiotic for an ear infection when he had Ehrlichiosis and could have died.
I am glad that both of you got the treatment you needed, even though it was a painful journey.
What is it with these quack doctors? Are they trying to kill us?

Hopefully your ear infection will clear up quickly - and I'm glad you are feeling better already.

So now one has to wonder how you got it.. I'm going to take the high road (over the table top) and think you were enjoying too much fresh baked breads and rolls....

I'm with the commenter that said ear pain is the worst! After I got an ear infection once, I realized why the kids were always so fussy when they had one.

Interesting yeast in the ear; hadn't heard of that before (not that I'm an expert, LOL) but I'm glad you finally got someone that diagnosed you correctly and is working on getting you a treatment plan that will work

hoping you feel better soon!

I complained about a doctor years ago and also refused to pay the idiot by having a stop payment placed on my check to him. I had written a letter to their offices and they responded that I need to not come back and to find a new doctor. I told them that that plan was already in the works and that he was a poor excuse for a doctor and that I would relay that to everyone I meet the for the rest of my life. That was in 1999 and see, I'm still letting people know how crummy he was. HIs name? Dr. Miles Howard in Goodyear, AZ... That'll teach him.

I'm glad you found a doctor who diagnosed your infection right away. I hope it clears up soon. So sorry you had to go thru the pain more than you should have because of that "new" doctor. Sometimes I wonder how some of these doctors get their license.

Ear infection is the worst.. I have had one the last 2 years around the same time of year.. It would last from end of September to January.. Its usually my allergies that cause it to get bad.. I even went to the ER one time because I was feeling so bad.. He said well I cant see anything gave me drops and oral antibiotics.. I was like well I could have told you that. Neither one worked.. I tried all the natural stuff and they would provide some relief but never clear it up..
It can be so frustrating! I am once again dealing with things plugging up and affecting my ears.. Its not fun.I also dont care for most doctors.
I have heard of yeast infections in ears before..

Deanna hope your ear is feeling much better! And isn't great to have a good rant on your blog where everybody that follows you undertands and rants with you?!!

I don't blame you for the rant--short tho it was--hehe! Makes you wonder if you got the doctor who barely graduated with a D average? I always think of that when I deal with "ignorant" or "lazy" doctors. They get paid too well to shuffle people in and out without paying proper attention. Doctors like that give the good doctors a bad name. And there are good ones out there.

Glad you found a good one and are feeling better. I hope you are feeling back to your old self quickly.
Prayers and hugs!

If I recall, pretty much anywhere that can get moist on the human body can get yeast infections. This is the first I heard of one in an ear, though. Glad you got it sorted out and are feeling better.
