Donations anyone?

The total cost (so far) to fix Buggy is $1,950...

Yea, I'm not so happy.

But it's still cheaper than a car payment. I have 96,000 miles on her and this is the first real repair cost we've had, so I'm going to suck it up and shell out the money (as if I had any other choice...)

There goes this year's vacation!!!!!

Maybe had you not tried to strangle the car with the
drive- off hose, it would have been nicer to you.
Is the car in St Louis still?

You didint say what they found wrong with it. MY friend had a brand new SUV that had a major problem with the motor using oil. He loss the motor because of it.He got on line and found that others had the same trouble, and the factory had a recall on his model.I'm just wondering if you had reseached anything about the problem you had with your's and if anything the factory knew about it and what they offered.

:(

Herbie has gone high maintenance on ya... Next thing you know he'll want fresh, clean air in the tires and a detailing every 6 months..

LOL Patty, you have a point there. The car is still in St. Louis - they have only done diagnostics so far. Haven't gotten into the actual work yet.

Yep Betty. The car has been paid for quite awhile, so other than a gulp, I'm good with it.

JR, I have looked online to see if this is an issue and can't see it. If the car was newer, I'd be looking harder. But it does have almost 100,000 miles on it. To quote Jim "A valve body in the transmission (whatever the hell that is)has to be replaced. If they get in there and find metal shavings, the cost will be worse"

Thanks Jeannie. I guess I'm going to have to cancel my trip to see you in Tuscany ;0

LOL Iggy. I wonder if she will squirt oil on the repairman's shoe... Herbie will ride again!!!!

Well, at least it can be fixed, and isn't going to be heading for the junk yard in the sky.

Ouch - that hurts! I vow to never ever have a car payment again. Hmmmm, haven't quite figured out the entire plan yet, but it's a great thought :) Hope you're all fixed up soon... maybe a stay-cation this year?

MUCH cheaper than a new car payment... the car may give you another 96,000 before needing repairs again. He's a keeper.

A valve body is what houses the valve, there must have been a bearing or a whats called a race go bad. I can't imagime them charging you that kind of money and haven't FIXXED it yet.... this would be my ONLY trip to see them. sorry you had to have this bad experance with this car.. HUgs U JR

You're right. Cheaper than a car payment. And this vehicle has been loved long. ;) Maybe there is something else you should be doing with your vacation days this year??? :)

I hope your Bug gets better soon. That's a steep bill so far. Wait until the actual work starts. :(

I spent close to $1500 on my car before we went to Texas last year, another $575 on it when we got back, and then the new starter last month for another $200. My car has a little over 95,000 on it. Good for lots more, I hope. And yes, it's cheaper than a car payment.

*puts some cyber money in the donation cup for the Bug*

Sorry about your little V-Dub but hey 100,000 miles and first real repair! I'd say Buggy has been good to you :) And he is cute too. I am at about 60,000 and no problems yet, dare I type that! My little V-Dub will most likely always have a home with us. Hope the repairs go well and your zipping around with Buggy soon!

Oh. Ouch. Ouches are an unfortunate reality of car ownership though, yeah.

Oh dear, that's about how many miles I have on my own Buggie! I hope she doesn't follow suit.
