The bathroom saga continues.
I shamefully neglected to take a picture of the 29 year old, outdated bathroom before we started this project. But here is a shot with the doors removed from the narrow, can’t get anything in there and find it back, linen closet. The vanity to the left was also outdated, with the formica being the original.
It was time to gut this room and start over! And that is exactly what we did.
We even removed the stained glass window. Now that the linen closet was gone, we could center it on the wall and frame it properly.
Did you know that cast iron tubs are dated? Me neither. But they are – and this particular one will be 100 years old next August.
Jim spent countless hours sanding the tub down to bare metal. I think he put 4 coats of paint on it. The claw feet now sport a touch of artistic talent.
Out of the garage and into the truck bed.
Out of the truck bed and down the brick walkway into the front door. All hands on deck.
Alioop and bend around the step railing, into the hallway.
Back down ya go. Breathe boys. Now, down the hallway.
Alioop again! Bend it right through the bathroom doorway.
And that, my friends, is how to bend a cast iron bath tub.
Now for the finishing touches. You know, minor things like stool, sink, lights, etc.

We have one very much like that (though in need of sandblasting and repainting, alas) -- it's wonderful for soaking and reading in -- keeps the water warm a good long time. But it was so difficult to get into into the bathroom (twenty-some years ago when we were younger and stronger) that any redoing will have to be done in place.
I didn't know tubs were dated either; fascinating history you have there now in your bathroom! looked like lots of hard work to get it there too! I know the finished product will look wonderful when the bathroom is entirely completed

Jim did a great job refinishing that tub. I knew they were dated because Karen always wanted a cast iron tub and I've gone shopping with her before looking for them. Ray didn't want one so they never got one. :(

Goodness.. I could see the straining muscles in those pictures. I know those beast weight a ton (well not quite but it seems like it when you go to move it!)

Things are looking good - hopefully you ordered some new bottles of Mr. Bubbles 'cause I suspect your grandkids are going to love splashing in this tub!

Vicki, we had one just like this in the first house we lived in and I've wanted one again ever since. It's been my dream. They are incredibly heavy! This one will never be moved again once it is in place.

LOL JR, they only have one size bigger and it was too long for the space we had. The lady we bought these from had B & B's and had bought a "lot" of them. This was the best one for us.

LOL Iggy - the grandkids are all drooling over it. They can hardly wait. But I told them I get the first soak, lol.
I can't wait to see the completed picture and that is really cool that the tubs are dated and yours is 100 years old wow. The tub is gorgeous and I bet you can't wait to relax in a hot bath and relax just looking at your new bathroom :o)

OMGosh! Those things are sooo heavy! Congrats to the men for tackling that project and getting the tub back where it belongs. Can hardly wait to see the finished bathroom pictures. I did know they were considered old-fashioned, dated, whatever and very hard to find anymore. I think they're cool! :)

OMG I love that bathtube!!! I lived in a really old house once that had a tub like that. I love the fact that you can fit in it and get enough water in it to cover more than the back of your legs!!!
