Happy Birthday Hawkie

Jim's mom is a real character. There is no other way to put it. She drank, smoke and cussed like a sailor all the years I have known her. She finally quit drinking and smoking when her Alzheimers got bad enough that she forgot. Thank goodness she hasn't forgotten how to cuss. I wouldn't know the lady if she wasn't saying SOB or KMA. One of the nurses told us the other day that she sometimes gets "bitchy" (uh huh I've seen that). She told the nurse "I wish I knew what son of a bitch put me in this place". This lady turns 80 tomorrow.

A few weeks before Christmas this year we had to make the difficult decision to find a retirement center for her. She had taken to wandering the streets of her little town in the middle of the night. For some reason that is frowned on ;) The "place" we found is close to our home and takes good care of her.

We kicked her birthday off a day early. Her real birthday is on St. Pat's Day and they had other activities planned at the home. I decided to take cupcakes for everyone. I had no idea there were 60 people... so 80 cupcakes I baked (some would want two, right?).

We had chocolate, yellow and spice cupcakes. We surprised her by showing up in time to serve dessert at their Noon meal. Everyone sang Happy Birthday dear Hawkie. She was grinning from ear ato ear.

Here is our oldest daughter, Tessa, with her Grandma.

Her real name is Evelyn, but everyone calls her Hawkie. She always told me she got her nicname because she had a hook nose and black eyes like a Hawk. Far be it for me to doubt her word!
Happy Birthday Hawkie and thank you for your wonderful son.

Happy Birthday wishes to Hawkie.

Happy Birthday Hawkie. You are the best Punkn. Not many people would bake that many cupcakes to take and share with everyone in the home. I bet they all loved them.

Happy Birthday to you MIL! She looks pretty good for 80. Alzheimers is a terrible disease.
You're a good DIL for bakin' all those cupcakes.

I bet she really enjoyed having you there for her birthday celebration. And to bring cupcakes! You're probably the most favorite visitor for all the residents there now, lol.
