Truly Rotten

How many of us can say we wear our clothing until it is worn out… rotten?

To my surprise I found a shirt in my trash today.  What’s up with that?????  We don’t throw antiques away!!!!

Shirt 001

Jim recycles clothes like others recycle aluminum.  A shirt starts out as Sunday best, then becomes everyday, then becomes weekend knock around, then it has the honor of becoming a farm work shirt.  Surely it has happened before, but I cannot recall ever seeing the final phase before… the trash.   So, I respectfully closed the trash bin and grinned, knowing there is hope for my “can’t get rid of anything” man yet.

Maybe there is hope for Terri, too? He's the same way. The only way old ragged clothes get in the trash can is if I toss them in when he isn't looking. I threatened to do that with a sweatshirt he wore underneath his coveralls yesterday for work. (as soon as warmer weather gets here, out it goes)

I have to admit to doing the same - especially with old boots. I can't bring myself to throw away the oh-so-comfy but hole worn through the sole, the last mile was 200 miles or more ago, boots of mine.

I think I have about a dozen pairs that I've no worn in 4-5 years sitting around in my bedroom.

Must be a guy thing. My hubby's the same way. Drives me up the wall. Usually the minute I get a small hole in anything of mine or a stain that cannot be removed, it gets relegated to my pile of "painting shirts". There's just one shirt I havent parted with. I dunno why...it's a real mess!

I have pieces of clothing that I have literally worn until they fell apart. More often, they shrink on me (because it can't be MY fault) or I just get tired of them and they get donated.

Well, when he learns that it is OK to throw stuff away when it's not useful any more (or at least send it to a recycling centre) can you send him to teach my Dad? I'm sure my Mam would appreciate it. ;)

Sexy, I'll have to admit uncovering a bulky sweater the other day that I bought when Tessa was in college... 15 years ago! I tried to put it in the Salvation Army pile... Next thing I know I was wearing it!
Jennifer - WELCOME! That is the nicest thing you could have every said. Please come back often.
AK, I'm beginning to think they are all alike. I forgot one of the usual steps Jim's clothes take and that is the rag bag, but this shirt was too rotten for even the rag bag, lol.
Iggy, I can believe that about your boots. As many miles as you put on those boots, I can understand you developing a certain "attachment". Jim has been known to wear boots with holes in the sole too.
Styxie - do you have a ton of paint shirts? LOL I have a blouse I can't part with, too. It is strange that way.
Chicago, what's up with the shrinking clothes thing? I have the same problem! You'd think they'd figure it out, lol.
Tori, I'm certain he'd love to come sort your dad out. I'm afraid the two would just learn each other's bad ways ;)

I've got clothes that I've had since the 80's LOL I'm bad about hating to throw anything away. If I can't wear it anymore because (as chicagolady said they shrunk It surely isn't my fault LOL) I usually give them to goodwill. *sigh* I really need to go through my closet.

Good for him for letting it go, and as the looks of it, it's about time. :)
